A 30-minute appointment with a full examination, after which you'll receive a fully costed treatment plan and a letter explaining your options.
Fee: £95, or £150 with Dr Ross Cutts. A CBCT scan (£210) may be recommended.
What happens at your consultation
We listen. You tell us what's bothering you, what you'd like to change and anything that worries you. There's no rush.
A full examination. A comprehensive examination of your teeth, gums and mouth, with X-rays where they are needed.
Your options, explained honestly. We tell you whether implants are suitable for you, what the alternatives are, and what each would involve. It's a good time to mention any social engagements, travel plans, work commitments or budget you'd like your treatment planned around, so it can be phased to suit you.
A 3D scan, if it's needed. If we need a closer look at your jawbone, we may recommend a CBCT scan, a type of 3D X-ray. Scans are taken at our Cirencester practice and cost £210.
Your written plan. You receive a fully costed, individual plan for your treatment and a full treatment letter outlining the whole procedure. Nothing goes ahead until you have read and signed it.
Nervous about coming in?
You're not alone, and you won't be rushed. Your consultation goes at your pace, with an explanation at every step. Before we start, we agree a stop signal: raise your hand and we stop. If you'd find it easier, treatment itself can be carried out under intravenous sedation.

Dental implant treatment is available at both our Cirencester and Stow-on-the-Wold practices, so please let us know which you'd prefer when you book. CBCT scans are taken at our Cirencester practice.

Before you come
- Your medical history. A day or two before your appointment, we'll send you an email or text asking you to fill in your medical history form online. If you'd rather, you can complete it at the practice: just arrive 10 minutes early. Please don't send it through the form on this page.
- Your medicines. The medical history form asks about any medicines you take, so it helps to have their names and doses to hand.
- Your diary and budget. Think about any dates, trips or work commitments coming up, and how you'd like to spread the cost, so we can plan the stages of treatment around them.
- Your questions. It helps to write them down. Nothing is too small to ask.

Am I suitable for implants?
Am I suitable for dental implants?
Most adults can have implants once their jawbones have stopped growing. They suit people in good general oral health who have lost a tooth or teeth through decay, gum disease, injury or another reason. The main question is whether there is enough healthy bone in your jaw to hold an implant. At your consultation we’ll examine you and arrange the tests needed, such as X-rays or a CBCT 3D scan, to see how much bone there is. If there isn’t enough, it can often be built up first with bone grafting.
I still have some of my own teeth. Can I have implants?
Yes. Implants can replace any number of teeth, from a single tooth to a complete set. If you’re missing one tooth, an implant and crown can fill the gap without touching the healthy teeth either side. If you’re missing several, a bridge on two or more implants can replace them. At your consultation we’ll also check the health of your remaining teeth and gums, as these need to be healthy before implants are placed.
Does my mouth need to be healthy before I have implants?
Yes. Implants do well in a healthy mouth, so any tooth decay or gum problems need treating first. This might mean gum treatment, and help with brushing and cleaning between your teeth. Teeth that can’t be saved are usually better removed early, because they can harbour bacteria that put implants at risk. Infections from failed gum or root canal treatment, or under a denture, may also need to clear before we start. We look at your mouth as a whole, not just the gap. This preparation can take anything from a few weeks to several months.
