Cookie policy

This page explains what cookies are, which ones this website uses and how you can control them.

Last updated: October 2026

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser. Some are needed for a website to work. Others help the website's owner understand how people use it. Similar technologies, such as your browser's local storage, are covered by this policy too.

The cookies we use

We use three kinds of cookie.

Strictly necessary

These make the website work and keep it secure, for example by remembering the cookie choices you make. They don't track you, and the website can't work properly without them, so they are always on.

Analytics (only if you agree)

With your permission, our own analytics cookies and Google Analytics remember how you found our website, for example a Google search, an advert or a link on another website, and which pages you looked at. If you then contact us through the website, or tap one of our phone numbers or email addresses, this is saved with your enquiry so we know which of our pages and adverts help people find us. Google Analytics shows us how many people visit and which pages they view, as totals; we don't use it for advertising. These cookies are off until you accept them, and they are deleted if you change your mind. Nothing is sold.

Functional (only if you agree)

With your permission, Google Maps and Google Street View tours of our practices load as soon as you open a page that has one. Google then sets its own cookies. If you don't agree, nothing loads until you press a map's or tour's button.

We also count visits with Fathom Analytics. It sets no cookies and doesn't identify you: we see only totals, such as which pages were viewed.

We don't use advertising or social media cookies, and we don't use session recording.

The cookies on this website

Strictly necessary

  • __cf_bm is set by our website host's security service (Cloudflare). It tells real visitors apart from automated bots, to protect the website. It lasts 30 minutes.
  • stcm.consent.essential, stcm.consent.analytics, stcm.consent.functional and stcm.hasConsented are kept in your browser's local storage by our cookie banner. They remember your cookie choices until you clear your browser's data.

Analytics (only if you agree)

  • cmvt_visit remembers when you first visited, the first page you saw and how many times you have visited.
  • cmvt_first and cmvt_last remember how you found us on your first visit and on your most recent one, for example which search engine, advert or website sent you.
  • cmvt_ids is set only if the link you arrived by carried an advert's click reference, for example from Google Ads or Facebook. It keeps that reference.
  • cmvt_path is kept in your browser's local storage and lists the pages you look at during your visit. It is cleared when your visit ends.

The four cmvt cookies are set by this website and last up to 90 days after your last visit.

If you withdraw your consent, all of these are deleted straight away.

Functional (only if you agree)

Some of our pages, such as our location pages and our tour of our practices, show Google Maps and Google Street View tours of our practices. If you allow functional cookies, they load as soon as you open the page. If you don't, each one loads only when you press its button. Once a map or tour has loaded, Google may set its own cookies, as explained in how Google uses cookies (opens in a new tab) and Google's privacy policy (opens in a new tab). When we checked in October 2026, loading one of our maps set Google's NID cookie, which lasts six months. If you change your mind, maps and tours stop loading, but cookies Google has already set stay until they expire or you delete them in your browser.

Staff who log in to manage the website also get WordPress's own login cookies. Visitors never do.

Changing your mind

When you first visit, a banner asks whether you're happy to accept analytics and functional cookies. You can accept or reject them. The website works either way: without functional cookies, you press a button to show each map or tour.

You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page, or here:

Controlling cookies in your browser

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block strictly necessary cookies, parts of the website may not work. Your browser's help pages explain how:

For other browsers, see your browser's own help pages, or allaboutcookies.org (opens in a new tab).
