A scan instead of a mould
To make a crown, bridge or denture that fits, we need an accurate record of your teeth and gums. Traditionally, that meant holding a tray of soft mould material against your teeth while it set.
With the iTero intra-oral scanner, we scan your mouth instead with the tip of a small, hand-held wand. It creates the impression entirely digitally, without the mess or taste of traditional mould materials. You and your dentist can follow the scan on screen as it happens, and the finished scan is used to build a three-dimensional model of your teeth on the computer.
The result is a more comfortable impression appointment and a precise record from which your crowns, bridges and implant restorations are made. iTero scanning is available at our Cirencester practice.
How we use it for implants
When it's time to make your new teeth, a small marker called a scan body is fitted onto each implant, so the scanner can record exactly where it sits. In our case studies, the steps look like this:

The iTero scan records the implants, your gums and the teeth around them.
The dental laboratory uses the scan to make a model, and builds your abutment and crown or bridge on it.
Your new teeth are fitted.
Some treatments still use a traditional impression for part of the process. Your dentist will explain which applies to you.
