3D and panoramic imaging for your patients
We take CBCT (cone beam CT) scans and OPT (panoramic) X-rays for referring dentists at our Cirencester practice. Scans are available at Cirencester only. A CBCT scan is £210.
What you can request
On the referral form, choose:
- Scan
- CBCT or digital panoramic (OPT)
- Region
- Maxilla, mandible or sinus
- CBCT field of view (cm)
- 10 × 8.5, 10 × 7 or 5 × 5
Under "reason for referral", please give the region of interest and the purpose of the examination.
When a CBCT scan helps
A CBCT scan gives life-size, three-dimensional information about the upper and lower jaws, from which precise measurements can be taken for planning. A conventional two-dimensional radiograph may not show the anatomy you need to avoid. A CBCT scan can help you to:
- check a patient's suitability for implants, and bone quality before placement
- find the most suitable site in the bone for an implant
- view the sinuses, to assess whether a sinus lift (augmentation) is needed
- evaluate wisdom teeth before removal
- locate nerves and blood vessels
- assess the result of bone grafting before implants are placed
- support other treatment, for example establishing root canal length.
An OPT gives a single two-dimensional image of both jaws and the surrounding bone, the sinuses, the mandibular nerve and the temporomandibular joints.
For patients: Radiography and 3D imaging.

- CBCT scans are sent to you on CD by post.
- Reporting
- Scans are not reported by us. If you need a radiology report, please make your own external reporting arrangements.

We book your patient in for their scan at Cirencester as soon as possible.
The scan is taken at our Cirencester practice.
The scan is sent to you, and your patient continues their care with you.

Or download the referral form, tick CBCT/OPT referrals, the scan, region and field of view, and Cirencester Dental Practice, and send it to the address on the form. If you email it, please also post the original signed copy.
